FYKOS
Me at FYKOS During my university studies in Prague, I was a leader of the student group FYKOS, which consists of around 50 college students. I was a head organizer of the international physics competition Fyziklani and participated in organizing many other educational activities and events (not only) for high school students. This experience taught me a lot – and obviously I like to talk about it! If you are interested into my FYKOS endeavours, this is the place.
What is FYKOS? I'll use the intro from the FYKOS web page. FYKOS is a group organizing competitions and other educational events in physics (and related fields) for high school students. FYKOS is supported by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University (CUNI MFF) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, and has a rich 40-year history of organizing educational events.
The organizers are mainly students of CUNI MFF, but there are also students from other universities (especially Czech Technical University) and several employees of scientific or other institutions involved in FYKOS. FYKOS is supported by the Institute of Theoretical Physics and the Department of Promotion and Media Communication of CUNI MFF. To ensure the didactic and professional quality of its events, it also collaborates with the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics and the Department of Physics Didactics of CUNI MFF.
The original event of FYKOS, after which the group is named, is the FYKOS correspondence competition, which you can read about on the competition's page. Although it started as a small correspondence competition in physics, FYKOS has evolved into a group that annually organizes events for thousands of young people interested in technical fields, supports their education, and provides them with opportunities and possibilities for further growth.
Apart from this competition, FYKOS organizes international team competitions in physics Fyziklani and Online Physics Brawl (discontinued in 2025), physics camps for the best participants of the FYKOS competition, and several more events. FYKOS has been for many years open to international students, so if you want to take part in any of its activities, you are more than welcome!
My involvement at FYKOS
Current role At this moment, I have a more passive role in most of the activities, consulting on any issues that may arise along the way. I am still somewhat active with the Fyziklani competition, as it is one of my greatest legacies in FYKOS. I also consult on formal questions regarding the organizational regulations and rules of the competitions. I am currently a Vice-President of the Central Committee for both Fyziklani and Online Physics Brawl.
